A "specialty car" with a sports car-like body based on a passenger car.
Although it is a category born in the United States,
it is said that the Mitsubishi Galant GTO
(originally official name was Colt Galant GTO), which was born in 1970,
was the first in Japan. The top grade MR is a high-performance version
equipped with Mitsubishi's first DOHC engine, and features the stripe shape
on the side and the duct on the bonnet. With a minor change in 1972,
the MR also changed the grille, tail lamp color, body color setting, etc.,
and the name "Colt" was removed, and it was produced until 1973.
The 1970, when the Galant GTO appeared, was also the year Tomica was born.
Only popular models were released by Tomica in 1972, and the No. 1 of the
1/45 scale Tomica Dandy series was also the Galant GTO. The same model,
which is famous as a rare model in the early Tomica series, has been
commercialized with TLV-NEO this time. Based on the mid-to-late model
released before, in addition to the parts, the body itself has also
been modified to reproduce the initial model. We will develop two colors,
orange, which is a typical body color of the car, and blue,
which was added in 1972.
Please enjoy the history of the actual car and Tomica.
